SUBAUDITION debut album The Scope was released on April 21st - 2006/05/19

“The Scope” is the title of SUBAUDITION’s debut album that has been released a few days ago and already is garnering diverse reactions from the press. The gist of the reviews is coloured by an admiration for this young Finnish duo said to create music that is stirring underneath a seemingly tranquil surface. But there are also signs of astonishment as to what is really happening on “The Scope.” Do some of the tracks really sound like “Pink Floyd on Valium”, as a writer of Eclipsed magazine expressed? “‘The Scope’ is an album that is as fragile as it is tough,” judged Orkus magazine and awarded 9,5 out of 10 points for a work that seems nondescript on first impression. Twilight magazine is equally amazed: “SUBAUDITION’s debut recording for a label is a colourful and many-facetted affair, employing a musical range that is remarkable in its diversity. A blending of classical instruments such as flute, saxophone, and piano, acoustic and spacey electric guitars, synthesizer sounds, loops, and percussion, resulting in a sum total that is predominantly quiet and floating. You may need a few runs of this album to really grasp its diversity, but then ‘The Scope’ will reveal more and more of its subtle richness of details -- music that is as beautiful as a dew-scented and misty spring morning on a forest clearing bathed in sunlight. This is not music for casual listeners, but rather for conscious connoisseurs.” So, all we can do is recommend you to just take your time to delve into the peculiar world of SUBAUDITION ... .

NOEKK "The Grimalkin" to be released on May, 19th 2006 - 2006/04/10

NOEKK The Grimalkin to be released on May, 19th 2006"NOEKK’s music is born from total intuition. It comes to me when I’m all alone and able to listen to my inner voice." Funghus Baldachin, the mastermind behind German Prog Rock duo NOEKK, aims "to capture the magic of the moment and to tell long, mad stories" with his music. Cheating any musical expectations, he and his companion F.F. Yuggoth have recorded three peregrinations branching out in all directions, where „adventures are possible on every side of the road“ according to the powerful-voiced singer. But who is it that might want to join these two musicians on their journey? "Basically, ‘The Grimalkin’ is an exciting album for all fans of Prog Rock“, says Baldachin. "We branch into vintage Hard Rock, get lost in folkloristic thickets, follow an invitation from Doom Metal and..." -- the versatile musician comments amused -- "we won’t refrain from slimy epic stuff either!"

All the critics who remarked on the alleged retro sound of last year’s debut album "The Water Sprite" will have a field day this time: "Nearly all the vocals are first takes", Baldachin tells us and openly confesses that according to contemporary standards "The Grimalkin" is far from perfect sound-wise, that is: it doesn’t sound clinical or sterile. And yet, these recordings that have been accompanied by Markus Stock (Studio E) with a lot of sensibility develop an allure that imbues the unusually long tracks with a ghostly life of their own. Asked what his inspirations are, the former EMPYRIUM musician Funghus Baldachin freely admits to his child-like fascination for all things hidden. For example, the title track was inspired by a weird painting from Norwegian artist Theodor Kittelsen that apparently succeeds in giving the musician the creeps: "You can see a witch at a mountainside, sitting at her loom and weaving wickedness into the world", the composer says. "With a very subtle nod to H.P. Lovecraft, in this song we state that evil has always been a part of this world -- even if we welcome the morning sun after a long night, we know for sure that the next night will come. This foreboding that we always live close on the brink of the netherworld is omnipresent in the music of NOEKK."

ORPLID - new album Sterbender Satyr will be released in March - 2006/02/17

ORPLID - new album Sterbender Satyr will be released in MarchORPLID´s third album "Sterbender Satyr" is scheduled for release on March 24, 2006. The trademark of the band from Halle is a successful mosaic of language, music, and representing images. Apart from almost purely acoustic songs, however, the new album sees the artists increasingly aiming for more ethereal soundscapes.

ORPLID's "Sterbender Satyr" is as successful a mosaic of language, music, and representing images, as were their earlier releases. Apart from almost purely acoustic, mostly guitar-based songs, however, their new release sees Frank Machau and Uwe Nolte increasingly aiming for more ethereal soundscapes.Aside from Uwe's distinctive lyrics, it has become a cherished stable of ORPLID to include settings of classical poetry on their albums. Uwe takes considerable pride in their interpretation of Oda Schaefer´s poem „Die Seherin“, a track that ranks with ORPLID´s most expressive works. On this song the group collaborated with the artist Sandra Fink from Leipzig whose vocal delivery "is a reflection of the poem's archaic depths, rendered with a theatrical sensibility."

"Sterbender Satyr" underlines a development that was already apparent in its predecessor, "Nächtliche Juenger" (2003): ORPLID are not a pure (Neo) Folk band, even if their early releases might have made that impression. The two musicians are rather constantly working on their unique settings of Uwe's "New German Poetry": lyrical, fragile, and sensitive, but powerful in expression and interpretation.

Fairy-tale melodies from Norway - VALI sign with Auerbach - 2006/02/03

VALI's first demo album "Forlatt" caused storms of enthusiasm with all those who were ableto get their hands on one of the rare copies. Now the Norwegian musician with a penchant for fairy-tale melodies has signed a five-albums contract with Auerbach. What is it that not just fans of folk music may look forward to? So far, reviewers have often referred to Ulver's pivotal album "Kveldssanger" -- not just because of a musical proximity, but rather because of the profound beauty of the songs that have mainly been created with acoustic guitar and cello. VALI himself is very pleased about the praise he received from the international press, but he points out the poor conditions of the recording sessions for "Forlatt". Hence, he gladly looks to the future: "On the coming releases, I will probably use more instruments than before, in order to give my music more means of expression." When asked what his goals with VALI are, the musician answers with modesty. "I just want to make marvellous music."

TENHI "Maaäet" available now! - 2006/01/06

TENHI Maaäet available now!The new TENHI album "Maaäet" is available since February 10th, 2006.
There have been comfortingly few changes in Tenhi since their last album "Väre"; this Finnish band is still performing its unique brand of nature music, music that is above all atmospheric and touching.

But there's a lot more to it: for years now, the musicians have been stressing the meaning of the aesthetics beyond their compositions, as Tenhi is meant to be a reflection of their sensitive perception of nature, not only in sound, but also in lyrics and pictures. Maybe a pictorial comparison can help to understand Tenhi's development. "Our new songs are run through by our perception of the Earth," multi-instrumentalist Tyko Saarikko tells us. "Our gaze isn't directed towards the horizon anymore, but towards the soil beneath our feet and the nature in our immediate surroundings." Musically, vocals, piano, and violin are clearly mixed to the fore, giving "Maaäet" a more immediate expression. This
picturesque character is mirrored in symbolic images that have been specifically created for the twelve new tracks, adding a fairy-tale quality to the whole work of art. "This album is much more personal, much darker than its predecessors," says the versatile musician who associates "Maaäet" with "the smell of a forest ground covered in autumn leaves". The band allows single melodies enough space to unfold a deep capacity for fascination, dismissing all superficial questions of styles or genres.
The Finnish lyrics are also very profound, weaving around motifs such as retreat, vulnerability, esoteric moods, and nature mysticism.

Whatever name you'd like to put on Tenhi's manifold creative undertakings -- the band members themselves describe it as Folk-influenced progressive music --, with "Maaäet", they succeeded in crafting a warm-hearted deepening of their music.

The national and international press go head over heels with enthusiasm and picturesque depictions: "The sweet, sweet sound of Scandinavian sadness" - this is KERRANG magazine´s description of TENHI´s new album. "Romantic regression never was more magical", VISIONS proclaim, while ORKUS even declared "Maaäet" the album of the month (10/10 points). ROCK HARD: "And their sound has become even darker ... "Maaäet" is outstanding in its rich imagery." ECLIPSED joins in into the eulogies and writes: "Maaäet" is folk music of the sublime kind and of divine beauty.
